It’s that time of year again! No doubt by now you’ve seen a number of marvellous mouth brows, beautiful bristle batons, and some lovely lip foliage. That’s right, it’s Movember and TPS is asking our community to help us make a final push to raise some money for this worthy cause.

The Globeducate International Music Festival is going live tomorrow morning! Five TPS students (and Mr. Stamper) will be participating, along with their international peers at Agora Lledó International School in Castellón.

The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

On this annual day of commemoration, the UN urges every member state to honour the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.

Today we recognize and remember the victims of the Holocaust. We vow to never forget them. As such, TPS will be hosting the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre on Wednesday, April 5th, 2023. On this day, the centre will bring an exhibit and educate our students on the Holocaust, antisemitism, and prejudice in general.  

February marks the celebration of Black History Month. During Black History Month, people in Canada celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country. 

The government of Canada’s 2023 theme for Black History month is: “Ours to tell.” This theme represents both an opportunity to engage in open dialogue and commitment to learning more about Black communities in Canada and what they have to tell about their histories, successes, sacrifices, and triumphs. 

This month and every month, it is important for all Canadians to learn about these communities and how they continue to help shape Canadian history. 

TPS, as always, will honour Black History Month by engaging with Black voices and perspectives. We are particularly looking forward to an upcoming presentation from a very special guest.

Rane Carnegie, from the Carnegie Initiative, will be speaking at TPS this month. Rane will educate TPS students and staff on the struggle of his grandfather, the great Herb Carnegie, and how he has finally been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

We would like to remind the TPS community that Autism Awareness Day is approaching on April 2nd. This year, we will be acknowledging the day on Friday, March 31st instead. We encourage everyone to wear blue to show support for those affected by autism.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disorder that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction. In Canada, it is estimated that 1 in 66 children have been diagnosed with ASD, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada. This makes raising awareness about autism and supporting those who are living with it all the more important.
